Self employment while being employed

Hello,
Can I found a personal company and do freelance jobs in my free time, while I am 100% employed? Then can I use my Pillar 3a money for the deposit of that company? What happens to teh deposit if I close that company?

All assuming my employer agrees with that.
Thanks

Check your contract of employment, it usually prohibits freelancing etc.

As I said, assume it doesn't and my employer agrees.

Re: Self employment while being employed

Maybe you need to be discussing this with an accountant?

Probably its more complicated than you realize.

Re: Self employment while being employed

I moved here for a job, while still running my consulting business in the UK. Like an honest fool, I informed the Swiss tax leeches (sorry, authorities) of this.

It became... too complicated. Even the acronyms (ambla? lambada? Something like that) are too much. So I no longer get paid a salary by the consulting co. Just dividends, if we are lucky enough to make a profit.

I have no real idea what running a Swiss consulting co while working for an employer in CH may involve. But I suspect it is even harder than retaining something you brought with you.

Short answer: possible, but difficult.

Good luck.

Ian

Independent secondary activity is usually ok if the income from it doesn't exceed 25% of the gross pay from the primary employment, otherwise the question arises which of the two is actually your primary activity (I know it works this way in GE, VD and VS for sure, other cantons probably have similar rules).
However, you can only withdraw your pillar 3 when becoming 'fully' independent (meaning, no employment contract elsewhere and you're registered with AVS as an independent). In any case, you'll need to pay social contributions on your freelance income directly to the cantonal AVS department for the independents.

Why would authorities care how much he earns from second job? First one, the primary, should still remain as primary even tho he might be earning 10x more from second. He said hes doing it in his free time.. he should be free to do whatever in his free time. And if he manages that and it makes him money, bravoooo.. more tax money for gvt, hes happy. win win

Assuming they don't have an actual right to establish a business etc., they are here because they are filling a specific gap in the labour market. They are not here to fill another position in the labour market that could be occupied by some more entitled to do so.
