Freelancing while on a student visa (language school)

Hello,

I'm planning to go to a language school in Zurich to learn German for a year. I'm not an EU citizen.

As I understand, I will be getting a D permit. I couldn't find any information about this permit on the official site of SEM. (By the way is this going to be the same permit that university students get?)

I'm a programmer, and I'd like to work remotely while I'm studying (I'll have only 2-3 hours of courses every day). Can I do that officially? Register as a freelancer, pay taxes etc.

I know that a student visa allows you to work 15 hours per week after studying for 6 months. Does the same limit apply to a language school visa and to freelancing?

Thanks

Re: Freelancing while on a student visa (language school)

FYI - In Switzerland a visa is only used for entry into the country. After that you will register in the local municipality for a residence permit. The D-visa allows to enter the country for more than 90 days, i.e. not just as a short-term tourist.

Your best bet is to contact the municipality where you plan to reside and ask them about whether or not you'd be allowed to work, and how many hours.

You need to check with the language school, I'm not even sure you'll get a permit to attend a language school for that length!

as i know, language school students cannot work.. so probably you will not have a "student work permit" that is 15 h/week.. but you should ask to the migration office anyway
