Lost my permit B but still have my passport

Hi everyone,

I've lost my resident permit while travelling in UK,
however, my passport is still with me and my passport allow me to "travel" to Schengen area for 90 days (I'm not a EU citizen though).

My return flight is on Sunday, but the embassy is close on weekends. I tried to call the emergency line to check if I can get back as "visiting", but the woman didn't give the answer at all.

I have an interview on Monday and this is so depressing.

Please help. Thank you!

Re: Lost my permit B but still have my passport

Edit: I'm a Taiwanese so it's more like a Schengen free term. And the emergency line and embassy mentioned above are swiss. Flight is from London Luton to Geneva.

Phone GVA. Ask them to put you through to someone at immigration. Explain the situation, and see if they will let you enter the country tomorrow.

It may be worth filing a police report in the UK for the lost permit.
If you have documentary evidence of the lost permit and your passport then I think you should be OK to re-enter Switzerland. They should be able to look up your details on their system and see that you have a valid permit for Switzerland.

You'll just need to tell the immigration officer when you re-enter Switzerland. They have a form that you'll need to fill out. Probably best to get a police report from the UK. Also everyone behind you in the queue will probably hate you because it takes a long time to fill out the form. But you'll be fine.

Usually it is not the immigration officiers but the airline staff at checkin counters who create problems, because the former can at least look up your info in their system. Had a friend who were refused to board a flight from south america to spain because "CH is not in the EU"

Re: Lost my permit B but still have my passport

-Update-

I was extremely lucky to get my wallet back! But just in case of someone fall into the same situation (DON'T! it's terrible):

1. London Police doesn't deal with lost property at all. They just asked me to record my case in this system: https://www.immobilise.com
And if you need a reference for maybe insurance use, you have to link to another system and need to pay for five pounds for that. And I think the info that you enter system is very unlikely to get your stuff back.

2. Like mentioned before, the woman of the emergency line just keep repeating the same words instead of answering my questions. And got impatient very easily.

3. My friends said that in France and UK, you have to wait for a return visa in this case; not sure about Switzerland, but it could be the same.

4. I tried to use only my passport but not permit when I got back from London (just out of curiosity). I could get out of UK without any problems. When I arrived at GVA, the immigration asked that how many days am I going to spend here, I answered and showed the permit. But I guess it *MIGHT* be also fine if I just said a week or so and get in. (Disclaimer: just my guess)

Anyways, a lesson learnt: *NEVER* lost the permit, it's terrible.

Actually that would have potentially been a bad idea to tell him you're just entering as a tourist because then you'd have a 90-day timeframe to leave the Schengen area without getting fined. Whilst technically they could refuse you entry if you didn't have your permit, this is realistically super unlikely as they can just look you up in the database.
