Visa D or B and family reunification!

Hello, everyone! My boyfriend and i decided to get married after 10 years of relationship, he is swiss. The last 6 to 7 years i haven been traveling from Costa Rica to Zurich back and forth because he is not living in Costa Rica anymore and for money reasons is very for him to live in Zurich, so now that we will "get married" i am fixing all the papers i need that the embassy requires in order to start the process.
They say it will take some weeks to the application and then i can applied for the Visa D if i want to live sometime in Zurich. I have tons of questions and i hope you can all help me because i feel so dumb doing this:
-Is it true that once i get married i get a Visa B(permit)?
-If i get the Visa or permit B, is it necessary to get the Visa D?
-Can they deny me the right to get married if i am only studying? (i wanna spend some months in Zurich studying german.

Hope you can all help me because i am getting kind of frustrated with this and i am very stressed right now because i wanna do things well and these processes are out of my hands.
Thanks for reading and i will be waiting for your answers. Everyone is welcome to write something and every single word helps.

Re: Visa D or B and family reunification!

All of you questions have been answered on the forum. Do a search or you can even scroll to the bottom of the page for similar threads.

First thing to understand is the difference between a visa and a permit.

The D visa you need to enter Switzerland for reasons that are not tourism.

The B permit is the resident permit that allows you to live and work in Switzerland.

It's probably a good idea to get your future husband to help with the organization.

Congratulations!

GrŁezi! I'm new, or i made my profile but i never used it before until now. Thanks, i found some information, but i still don't know the difference between the B permit and the Visa D, so i don't know if i will get the B if i get married with a Swiss person or if it's necessary to get the Visa D, not very clear to me.
As the very swiss person that he is he found all the information, but i still don't get what i just said. And thanks for your answer and the congratulations.

Re: Visa D or B and family reunification!

I explained the difference.

One is a visa (D) which allows you to enter the country for purposes other than tourism and stays longer than 30 days. You are coming to Switzerland to live. You need a D visa.

A B permit allows you to live and work here.

Go to the consulate near your residence. Tell them you want to live here because you are married or getting married, which ever.

There you will apply for permission to have a B permit. When they approve the permit allowing you to live in Switzerland, they will issue you a D visa and put a sticker in your passport.

When you arrive in Switzerland, you permit will be 'pre-approved' and you register at the commune you will be living and they will issue you with the B permit, a credit card type thing you keep in your wallet.

So, you need both!

If you and your fiance are planning to marry here then he needs to apply for a fiance permit for you, which will allow you to come here for a few months to arrange the wedding. He needs to contact his civil registration office for more info and details of what documents will be needed.

Re: Visa D or B and family reunification!

Hi, everyone! I just don't know now what to do. I am still waiting in Costa Rica for my Visa D to get married in Zurich. They should have gave it to me around august 15th so now basically they are 3 months late. My fiance call them and they said they lost some papers, so now they have all the papers that they lost and as usual, they said we just have to wait. Is there any other way to really talk to someone who really knows why is it taking so much time or not? I am very desperate here. Hope someone can help. Thanks in advance!

Re: Visa D or B and family reunification!

Sorry, but no. You'll just have to be patient. Hassling them won't help the situation.
