Advantage of Early / Anticipated Permit C

Hi,

I wonder what is the advantage for early / adnticipated Permit C?

There are many posts about the early Permit C. I just would like to know the reason why it is encouraged to do so? I am non EU and up for my 10th year Permit B renewal in 2018. If I apply for early Permit C, does it mean they may already give me a Permit C in 2018?`

Thanks!

Reasons are simple for Non EU:
1) You cannot be kicked out of the country if you lose your job
2) You will get full entitlement to unemployment benefits if you lose your job. with a B, it is possible that they wont renew your permit even if you have benefits period left
3) it is mandatory to have a C permit from 2018 onwards if you want to apply for passport
4) B permit is tied to your employment whereas with a C permit, you can chose not to work or work less if you have enough money to support you and your family. Basically you can chose how much you want to work depending on your needs.

when you are up for renewal next year, you may have to provide a language certificate (A2 or B1) depending on where you live and other documents. your canton website will have the details but remember C permit is not automatic, so you have to collect and provide all these documents.

Not true. A B-permit is not always tied to employment. You can most certainly choose not to work on a B-permit! The B-permit allows you to work but does not force you to!

Years ago when I was still on a B-permit I did not work for more than a year - and I was not on unemployment benefit, nor social welfare, nor any other type of benefit. I just happened not to be working.

Many thanks for your help again.
The early C-permit is upon request. When your B-permit is about to expire, instead of renewing it for another one, you can ask (provided you have resided uninterruptedly in CH for 5 years) for an early C-permit. The authorities will then decide whether you receive a C or if you have to wait another 5 years for it.

If you do not specify you want an upgrade to an early C-permit, you will simply be given another B-permit.

Re: Advantage of Early / Anticipated Permit C

Maybe getting something 'earlier' (than you deserve it) makes one a bit more Swiss thanks to the accompanying sense of entitlement?
