Short Term Stay Impact on Residence Permit

Hello,

I have a few questions:

1. My Uni has applied for my Work/Residence Permit in Bern. Is it mandatory that I need to first register with the Population Office before taking up the work? I think I would get my Visa to enter Bern almost close to my Employment Start date or probably a few days after my Employment start date. Hence, would it be OK if I take up with work first and within 14 days register my residence? Has anyone arrived later to the employment start date and successfully registered at the Population Office?

2. As I could not find a suitable accommodation for 15 - 20 days period (11 Aug to 31 Aug), I am planning to book Airbnb. However, I have a long term rental contract from 1st September. The locations of my short term and long term stay would be different. How will this scenario impact my residence registration? Will I be able to show my long term rental address even while registering in the first place?

Please let me know!!
Thanks.

If you have an EU passport no problem.

You will have to pay for registration twice

You can't work until you have your permit in hand.

Incorrect, since the permit is already pre-approved. Given the length of time it takes to issue a non-EU permit employers would have a fit if you tried to impose that sort of rule. But yes, you ought to start the process off for getting it issued before you start work. Until you register you're not a resident and only residents can work.

Yes, show both addresses since the shorter period may not be long enough to qualify.
