Time from approval to receiving documents?

Hi all

I am in a peculiar situation. I was here on a short term work permit (3 months) and the application for long term extension was due. My Visa expires very shortly (in a few days). This afternoon I received the news confirmed by some authority that extension is approved.

So if I get the document in next 2 days, can I immediately get a Visa extension in Switzerland that will allow me to extend my stay here?

How soon I can expect to receive the documents by post, are they sent on priority? Can I receive the document at the work permit office in person by showing my identity to save 1 day of postage time?

Finally is it safe to postpone my travel to the last date of my Visa? I mean has anyone done that ever and survived?

Re: Time from approval to receiving documents?

If you have a permit you do not need a visa to re-enter Switzerland, the permit takes the place of the visa for travel purposes - that's why you must carry it with you along with your passport. I doubt you can get your new permit mailed to you by priority post, but you could ask the cantonal migration office if it's possible to pick the new permit up in person.

Re: Time from approval to receiving documents?

Thanks for your answer.

I don't have the permit as yet. For now I am waiting for permit authorisation, the document one takes to Visa office to enter Switzerland. In my case I am already present in Switzerland and authorisation will come anytime in next few days.

My questions are:

Can I then get a Visa extension while I am in Switzerland?

Or can I go to the Kreisburo and get some documents that allow me to extend my stay in Switzerland until the permit is issued?

Re: Time from approval to receiving documents?

Yes, you can go to the Kreisboro and get a document that says your permit is being processed. That will also be on the Border Control's database when you come back into the country so you shouldn't have any problems re-entering.

As said you do not need to extend your visa, the document from the Kreisboro states that you have a permit which is being processed so a new visa shouldn't be needed.
