Master's studies, non-EU student, 6 months waiting period, work permit?

Hello,

my sister comes from non-EU country and she got a visa type D for studying. She finished Bachelor studies in her home country, and now is on her Master's studies in Switzerland.

The job was offered to her, but since she is from non-EU country, she has to wait six months, but the job would not be available anymore. The offered job is from the university.

Is there any way she could take the job without the waiting period?

Thanks!

Why would she have to wait 6 months? After finalizing your studies, a non EU person is for 6 months on (relatively) equal footing with a Swiss/EU person with regards to getting a job.

Well, she is just starting with her Master's studies in Switzerland, she just finished her Bachelor studies in non-EU country.

I found this:

"If you are coming to Switzerland to study you may take up part-time work for up to 15 hours a week in term time and full-time during holidays, but only after you have lived in Switzerland for six months."

Ah ok, sorry. I don´t think there is a way around that clause. But then maybe someone has had a different experience?

An ETH webpage for international students says:

"During their first 6 months in Switzerland, Master students from non-EU countries can only obtain a work permit for a job at their ETH department."

Thanks, but this is for ETH only. My sister is studying at University of Lausanne.

Indeed, the University of Lausanne does not make an exception for university departmental work and requires six months of Swiss residence before a work permit can be issued:

" "Attention!
Pour les ressortissants hors UE, le permis de travail ne peut être délivré que 6 mois après votre arrivée en Suisse."

Re: Master's studies, non-EU student, 6 months waiting period, work permit?

Best way is to check with the university's desk that's responsible for permits/international matters. If you disagree with their verdict, depending on your field, contact:

IAESTE - Sectors science and technology
AIESEC - Sectors management and organisation
SWIMSA - Health care sector

Source: https://awa.zh.ch/internet/volkswirt...m_studium.html

In my case, I connected my hiring manager with AIESEC who took care of everything.. of course, for a "fee" charged to the employer. But in the end, it worked out cheaper and faster than having to battle the bureaucracy of University and Government. The trick is to figure out who wants to hire her strongly enough to invest in this paperwork exercise, and connect that person with AIESEC or similar agency.

Well, it seems there is nothing we can expect to wait for 6 months to pass.

Thank you all.
