Is there a way to get any information directly from the cantonal regarding B Permit

Hi All,

I am a non-EU mechanical engineer with +15 year experience. I was offered a job from a swiss company at end of last July.
Basically they were looking for an expert of a very specific area of the business which I have a lot of experiences and the job was located in Zurich and I accepted it.

As far as I heard from my boss, they applied a B type permit as soon as I provided them with my documents in the week of 7-11 August.

Then I resigned from my existing job since I had a notification period to my old employer and started to wait to hear from my new employer.

I knew that it takes 8 to 12 weeks to finalize an application and I was quite confident that my qualification is good enough. So I just sat down and waited until last week. But last week my boss told me that they have some problems with the cantonal authority. Basically the canton thinks that my new employer didn't search enough across the EU and they think that the salary I accepted is lower than the average considering my experience and knowledge.

My new employer and their employment consultant has never employed a non-EU previously and I think they did some mistakes in the application. For example they interviewed some candidates from EU before me but they didn't document this into the application. Now my boss told me that they added some additional supporting documents showing that they had interviewed with EU candidates before me. And they offered me a better contract. They did this last week.

Now I started to wait again. But not sure how long will it take because I am not working at the moment. And I am a little disappointed because of the mistakes my new employer did...

Guys can you let me know if you have any recommendation about what should I proceed?

Is there a way to get any information directly from the cantonal authority to understand what is the progress and what is wrong with it?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum blackdog.

Short answer to your question is no and they wouldn't tell you even if the answer was yes. The employer has to make the application and they're the people who get informed. If it's still at cantonal level you have a fair time to wait since if they do approve it, it then has to go up to the federal level for approval as well.

Your prospective Swiss employer should look at this if they haven't already.

You shouldn't have resigned from your job until you knew the permit had been approved I'm afraid. All you can do is wait until you hear one way or the other now.
