Early Permit C processing time at federal level - 2017

Hi all,

AFTER approval at cantonal level, how much time does it take at federal level for the approval of an Early permit C (based on integration etc etc)?

What are the chances of rejection at federal level?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

For me this step (federal State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) approval) and its processing by Vaud cantonal immigration office took about a month.
I haven't heard about anybody failing this step.

Yes. Took nearly three months at federal level.

Just as another data point: my non-EU early C permit processing time took exactly three days on the cantonal (ZH) and one day at the federal level, also in 2017.

That said, the canton said they were not allowed to even begin the processing before my 5-years-in-Switzerland day, so I spent those 4 days with no permit on hand (and they sent me a permit backdated to the 5-year mark).

Does this mean you received your C permit in just over a week?

I applied end of August 2017 and promptly received an answer that they (Migrationsamt Zurich) were legally not allowed to start processing the application until November 27 (the day on which I reached 5 years of living in Switzerland.
I pinged them on November 29 and they said they approved it and now it needed approval from SEM (federal office) and it was no longer in their hands.
The C permit card came in the post on December 1.

So yeah, it was 5 days from the day they actually started looking at the application.

you are extremely lucky, I can't even believe this can be done so fast for the non-EU...

May I ask how long did it take for you altogether since you submitted the application? Thanks!

How recent? Anything within the last 6 months won't be representative of "usual" timelines due to office being closed or simply not processing permits during Covid times.

My application for C is already one month on someones desk. Not sure if its good or bad. I also got no answer from canton or anyone else. I'm an EU citizen.

Everything's been delayed. The chances are that your application has not even yet been seen.

During the corona crisis, they were not processing any applications at all, which makes complete sense, as no-one could fully anticipate how the world would change. Now that they've started up again, they've said their focus will first be those applications that had already been submitted prior to the declaration of the crisis.

I know they stopped issuing entery permits. Not sure if this is true for my case - for the people who are already here. My friend got a cantonal upgarade from B to C last month. He's a UK citizen.
