Changing NonEU L permit to a non tied B permit

Hi all,

Here is my situation
Graduated from EPFL
Living in Neuchatel
I have been on nonEU L permit for 2 years.Due to team restructuring, I had have to change the employer and working Canton ( from Neuchatel to Solothurn) during my second L permit ( same company and different legal entities)
Now the employer needs to apply for a B permit but I am wondering if there is anything that my employer or myself can specify or do to get non tied B permit?

Kind regards,

Short answer, no. They can apply, but it's entirely up to the cantonal migration office what type of permit you get. It could be another L, more likely will be a tied B. An open B doesn't usually get issued untill you've been on a tied B for some years.

To add to what Medea said: you personally cannot do anything. Your employer may explicitly ask the labor market authority (AWA Solothurn, if you are working in Solothurn) to issue an unlimited work authorization instead of one that is time-limited and tied to them, but they have absolutely no obligation to do so.
They may waive the limits after you stay with the same employer for a number of years, but as a non-EU person your first-time B permit will almost certainly be tied to the employer, sorry.

Thank you for your answer.
I will ask the employer to write the letter and I hope that as EPFL graduated, I have fair chances to be employed elsewhere (here is the SEM explanation)
https://www.sem.admin.ch/sem/en/home...abgaenger.html
so there is no need to set restrictions...
I know some friends working in the french speaking part of Switzerland and got directly a non tied B permit so I am assuming that there is no defined rule.

That's irrelevant. That's only for the first 6 months after graduation to make it slightly easier to get that first job. You've done that so now you're subject to the normal hiring rules.
