Lost Passport - current procedure 2017

(I put 2017 in the date so that future searches will realize this information as I expect the procedure changes over the years).

My lovely wife, god bless her, has lost her passport with us due to go to Blighty over Christmas. Because this is England, a permit C isnt going to cut the mustard, there's a definite passport control and definite passport requirement.

We might yet find it, but planning for the Worst Case Scenario, has anyone recently been through this ? i.e. is it Bern or Geneva we go to, and whats the time taken both on the day and planning in advance ?

A huge thanks in advance for any advice given.

Mike

quickest to get everything started is to call the embassy and tell that you lost the passport and have a holiday planned, they will tell you what to do to achieve an emergency passport (or if time allows) get a replacement. Also you can make an appointment right away if needed.

I appreciate the advice, but calling any public service related British entity involves at least 30 minutes on the phone while a nice lady says repeatedly "we do appreciate your call, but we're suprisingly busy right now" and then some lift elevator music. Hence looking to see if anyone has done this recently and has first hand experience of the times taken.

You are lucky ....
OH needed a new passport, very urgent, went to embassy in Bern, and the printer broke !!!!
Could not be fixed, no alternative, so ended up with a special 1 off hand written passport, in a beautiful lilac pink cover.
Caused a few smiles and a couple of questions when it was used to travel later that day, and on the return journey.
Good luck !!

Re: Lost Passport - current procedure 2017

You´re lucky that they have passports and can print/hand write them! Ours doesn´t even have passports (or so they say) and anything has to be send to Den Haag to be printed

No need for a passport just use the ID card

Oh we are talking about a U.K. Passport. Bad luck then, the UK emergency passport is always £100, fancy office or not. https://www.gov.uk/emergency-travel-document
