Non-EU, Open B permit, can I be self-employed and renew my permit?

Hello Forum,

I have been here in Lausanne, Switzerland for 7 years. I am non EU. Did my PhD here, I had a B permit for 6 years straight (renewable each year). Then this year I began working, where I got an open B permit. I decided to leave my job eventually, and I have been considering to be self-employed.

In fact I have two options, either to be self employed, or be employed by a company (Fund) that is established in the Netherlands who are willing to pay me a salary while working for them here in Switzerland. They don't have a presence here in Switzerland though. I was wondering, since my B permit is open and it says (une activite independante est soumise a autorisation), can I continue having my B permit renewed next year if I get the right paper
work in action (if any possible)?

I hope someone can point me to the right directin.
Awaiting your replies.
Thank you all.

Hello Forum,

it says (une activite independante est soumise a autorisation)
An independent activity is subject to authorization!!

Open permit allows you to get employed with any employer with out employer requiring to prove your application. You just have to update cantonal authorities about your job change sending your contract.

When it comes to self employment, you may not just start like that. You should get an approval from authorities.

Coming to renewal, in case your self employment request gets rejected and in case you choose to get unemployment benefits, not sure if your renewal gets impacted.

With your open B permit you may be able to become a full-time Swiss employee of a non-resident company. You'll need to contract your own accident insurance and P2 pension scheme (P2 required only for for EU-based employers).
See https://www.caisseavsvaud.ch/particu...nu-de-cotiser/ for more details.

The back of your permit probably contains the text which states that self employment is subject to approval (or words to that effect). So no, you can't switch to self-employment and renew the permit.
