Changing Canton on non-EU B Permit: Can it degrade my permit to L?

Hi,
I'm thinking of moving from my current canton to another, yet staying with the same employer. I currently have a 2-year working B permit (Non-EU). I was wondering whether there is a chance that my next permit becomes an L, for example because the new canton sees more demand per quota?

Not sure if you meant 2nd year B or B permit with 2 years validity. any case, your permit renewal is not required to pass through yearly quota as it went through for your first B and your renewals should be easier.

If its a tied permit, I don't think you are allowed to change your canton. You may have to check with your future canton authorities before making a move.

In summary, It all depends on what kind of B you have and restrictions that are put in place.

Both. It's my second work permit, this time with a 2-year validity.

How do I know? There is no mention of the company on the permit, but canton is mentioned, obviously. Does that mean I have to change permit as well when changing?

You can move, but will need to get permission from both old and new cantons to do so.

Thanks. Will I be subject to a new "permit issuing" process, or it's just the permission? Will I be again subject to quotas of the new Canton (Much more competitive)? What about next renewal of my permit?

Quotas aren't involved so it's just permission. And any renewal of your permit will be done by the canton you live in.

Sorry if it looks silly, but should I be worried that at the time of next renewal, my B permit may be degraded to an L? With or without changing cantons.

Only if you're not integrated enough. The new law is supposed to come into force some time this year.

Otherwise if the contract is for more than a year you'd get a new B.
