Concubine Permit?

Hello,

I am a bit lost in all of the conflicting information that can be found about visas for non EU citizens in Switzerland. I was wondering if anyone had any advice or information about a concubine visa? Has anyone been granted one successfully, does it even still exist? Anything and everything anyone can share would be amazing.

Only a few cantons offer it, most do not.

Best bet is ask at your local commune, though as I recall it's not possible in GR.

Yes, VD, GE, and perhaps NE and ZH.

But OP is in GR, so no.

NE for sure although it’s not easy, a lot of criteria have to be met.

I am interested as well in applying for this permit, how long did your friend have to wait? Was it to canton VD? Any advice for someone about to apply for this?

Here's Vaud's info.

Basically you and your partner need to prove a long term, committed relationship that's been going for several years and will ideally lead to marriage/registered partnership. Also your partner has to agree to be financially responsible for you for 5 years. You might not be allowed to work with this type of permit, again this may depend on the canton and your nationalities.

Hi,

I am trying to find the same information for Luzern Kanton. I would really appreciate some help.

Check with the cantonal migration office in Lucerne. Not all cantons offer this type of permit. I don't recall reading anywhere here that Lucerne does.

This is a much greater financial commitment than marriage. If things go bad, one can end the marriage by getting divorced, and putting a stop to financial commitment. But one cannot opt out of this 5-year responsibility, and as I understand it, it includes all the costs that the concubine incurs up until and including the very last day of the 5 years.

Yes, as far as I know, so long as the other half remains in Switzerland the financial commitment continues regardless of whether they're still together or not until the 5 years are up.

The Ct. St. Gallen migration webpage for non-EU citizens does not mention concubine permits:

https://www.migrationsamt.sg.ch/home...ttausland.html

Ct. St. Gallen offers three-month marriage preparation permits for non-EU citizens, which might be of interest. More information is available at this link (German):

Thank you, but as far as I understand, st Gallen and Lucerne are two different cantons?

Ticino doesn't have this type of permit. Not all cantons offer it and Ticino is one that doesn't.
