Re: Canton Vaud- Service de la Population - Letter requesting documents

Permits are in short supply.

Mod note - This post was copied from this thread. Reason for the new thread is that the original relates to an EU citizen, and the question asked below is for non-EU so the quotas are not the same.

Can you point to any recent (2018) news article or documented statistics that mention the status of permit quotas in Switzerland? Or is this more of a general comment based on subjective evidence from folks posting their work permit experiences?

I am asking because my new employer just applied for a Work Permit for me and I am curious about the chances for rejection.

Non-EU permits are always in short supply: 8,000 in total (3,500 B permits, 4,500 L's) for the whole country for the whole year. They are released quarterly (875 B's/1,125 L's per quarter) and the federal government keeps about half in reserve iirc.

I can't find it right now, but I am sure not too long ago someone has posted about how many permits have been issued vs are available. I think there's even a government page with the info. Anyone else remember or have a link?

Re: Permit quotas

I understand that, for political reasons, the communes are under pressure to revoke permits from UE that are no longer valid.

There is no EU quota and those that qualify continue to get their permits. But they are trying to ensure that when someoneís situation changes and they no longer qualify, they donít retain the permit.

EU migration continues to grow, but at a slower rate, but the politicians want to be seen as ensuring the rules are being followed.

I gleaned the above from one of the people on our village responsible for permits. Over a bottle of the local wine, or two. It is nothing new.

Re: Permit quotas

At month-end June 2018, 42% of the non-EU L and 53% of the non-EU B permits had been exhausted. See p.14 at this link (German):
