NON EU F/T Student (not masters) in Bern - Can I switch to part time and work

Hi,

I have a question if anyone can assist I would be most grateful.

I am a full time student (not masters) and I was looking to go part time next semester and find a casual Job.

From my understanding and according to my university guidelines, it must not impact the time it will take to complete my degree and be relevant to my studies. This is very limiting as I don't think I would be able to study full time and work casually.

Has anyone had any experience in this situation? any advise or comments will be most welcome.

Cheers,

Simon

I kind of got a soft yes from the Migration office.

As long as you are enrolled. The difference is 1 year and it will come down to affordability and showing you have enough funds.

That is what the official feed back was.

Remember you're limited to 15 hours a week max during term time when working.

I think it depends on whether you've stayed for more than 6 months in Switzerland.

For my case, I started school 8 months ago but due to some delay in finding lodging and hence completing my resident permit last year, I had to defer registering as a resident. The 6 months start counting only after I've become a resident, so I've to wait for 1 more month now :/

I heard that even though students are allowed to work for 15 hr/week, the company that hires you still have to do the paperwork to submit for approval. For this in big & competitive company like Novartis, opportunity is still given to those who already have work permit/ EU students.

Let me know how does it go for you, and good luck in finding job!

Cheers
