Official travel document while waiting for C permit

I applied to be moved from a B to a C permit last March. Apparently, it takes quite a long time in Ticino (at least 12 months, with one person quoting 27 months!). A "pay for permit" scandal has not helped the quickness of the process.

I remember reading here that people received a letter when they applied so that they would not have any issues when they travelled. I have not received anything official but am thinking that it could be useful, particularly with the pending Brexit talks. The conversation must have been embedded in another thread because I cannot find any posts now and I cannot find anything on the Ticino immigration page.

Is this still a thing? And did you have to have to request it? How much did it cost or was it free?

Cheers.

No. I was required to send the original back with my C application. I do have a photocopy, that is all. But even an original B permit would look like it was expired, so I am not sure how much it would help.

Re: Official travel document while waiting for C permit

No worries and thanks anyway. I found an answer...One can request a declaration and it costs CHF 30. It was part of the application but I did not understand the wording of it to mean a type of confirmation that the application was being processed. Oh well. I have emailed the office, so I will hopefully get a response.

Re: Official travel document while waiting for C permit

In six year I have never been asked for my permit while travelling..? It's not a travel document?

A couple of times arriving at Geneva airport I've been asked what was the purpose of my visit to Geneva / Switzerland.. I just told them I live here.. Simple as that.

That is useful to know, though I've been asked for my living permit every time I have travelled through Zurich and Lugano airports. Fortunately, I generally leave out of Milan Malpensa or just go on business trips in my car in the EU. So, it should not be too much of an issue, but better safe than sorry.

Itís not uncommon for non EU nationals to be asked for their residence permit when entering Switzerland.

I'm an EU national (well, for the moment!), and I have still been asked quite a bit at immigration. Someone who lives in Lugano told me she was hassled even in Frankfurt airport even though she had the form stating that her living permit was being renewed. I'm not sure if she is a EU or non-EU national.

Same here and Iīve been flying Frankfurt/Brussels really often, also connecting from flights from the US. Passport always was enough.

Me neither, and I've been in and out of ZRH at least once a month for several years. In fact I used to keep it in my passport for convenience but this seemed to annoy the immigration guys so I've kept them separate for at least 5 years. Half the time I leave my permit at home as no one's ever asked for it.

That is reassuring. A number of people in Ticino have been asked regularly so it is good to see that not everyone is.

My husband traveled pretty much weekly arriving in a Geneva or Basel and he was never asked for his permit either. (UK national)
