For non-EU work permit; Is a master's degree still required for 8 years experience?

Hi everyone,

I've joined the forum recently and checking out the threads for a while now; great community here!

Here's what I'm wondering; I've received a job offer from Basel over 150K and I have almost 8 years of experience in well-known international companies, both German and several different professional certificates and I have a Bsc in Computer Engineering.

So do they still require me to have a master's degree in order to be a highly-qualified non-EU immigrant? Is this a must?

It might be possible without one.

"Admissions are limited to managers, specialists and other qualified workers. ‘Qualified workers’ primarily means individuals with a degree from a university or university of applied sciences who also have several years of professional experience. Depending on the profession or the field of specialisation, individuals with special training and several years of professional experience can also be admitted."

Hi Medea,
Thank you for your response. I've read that it seems there are no concrete list of requirements to qualify; it's all up to them.

I was wondering if anyone had any similar experiences so thank you

If anyone else has any experiences/comments, please share

usually the authorities ask for a uni degree(bachelor might be sufficient) or at least 10 years relevant work experience.

Seeing that OP got a job offer the chances are good, most companies would not do that unless they are pretty sure OP will get a permit.

OP, is there a clause in the contract saying that it is valid only conditionally to getting a permit?

Re: For non-EU work permit; Is a master's degree still required for 8 years experienc

Hi,
So I've got my permit approved from all authorities and received a document. I was wondering what it means on the length of stay part:
Aufenthaltsdauer: Aufenthalter B ab XX.XX.XXXX, unbefristet

Does it mean I have a B permit? And for how long?

Hi,

Can you find a code (like 1402) in your document?

This can be helpful:

Re: For non-EU work permit; Is a master's degree still required for 8 years experienc

So it seems that it is a B type Permit. See page 4 and 5 of document:

Stellenantritt bei schweizerischem Arbeitgeber über 364 Tage (ab 365 bis unbefristet)

means: Taking up employment with Swiss Employer over 364 days (from 365 to unlimited)

Hi mshabab,

Thank you very much! So does it mean that I have to renew it annually?

Yes it seems that you have to renew it annually. However I think it is not complicated:

Die Gültigkeitsdauer der Aufenthaltsbewilligung für Drittstaatsangehörige wird das erste Mal in der Regel auf ein Jahr befristet. Die einmal gewährten Bewilligungen werden im Normalfall jährlich erneuert, sofern nicht Gründe (z.B. Straftaten, Fürsorgeabhängigkeit, Arbeitsmarkt) gegen eine Erneuerung sprechen.

means:
The period of validity of the residence permit for third-country nationals is usually limited to one year for the first time. Once the permits have been granted, they will normally be renewed annually, unless reasons (eg criminal offenses, care dependency, labor market) speak against renewal.

Hi neocorp,
What kind of documents is submitted for work permission?

have you submitted yourself or was the company dealing with it ?

I have similar issue, I have a permanent job offer with 110K and company has asked some documents like justice report, CV and some certification.

Hi hakanogu,
You only submit them to your employer. They will submit your application to authorities.

Regarding what's needed; your signed contract, diplomas, relevant language and/or professional certificates if any, criminal record in one of the official languages, passport. If you're married then there are some other actions you need to take.

By the way, it probably depends on the canton but scans of all above are accepted. Your employer should inform you about all of these.
