| | Re: My Facilitated Naturalization application experience | Quote: | | | | | Hello,
This forum helped me so much during my process and today I have the pleasure to share my experience.
October 1, 2021 all documents sent to SEM
On October 20 I received the invoice and the acknowledgment of receipt which I paid the same day
December 20, summons from the canton for an interview for January 20 if I remember correctly
Mid-March I resigned two forms * respect for public order and the marriage that we are still together *
At the end of June, after more than 3 months, positive decision from the SEM but must wait 30 days. At the end of August, letter of confirmation of naturalization from SEM too.
3 days later, the canton confirms that I am registered and that I can now apply for my identity card.
The whole procedure had taken 11 months. I hope this information helps. The most important thing is to prove its good integration and have patience in life. Best regards. | | | | | Congrats!!! Waiting time is a crazy experience!

| | Re: My Facilitated Naturalization application experience | Quote: | | | | | Received my invitation for an interview today for a month from now. The letter stated that I would be asked written questions on history, geography, civics etc. Does this mean I will do a written test or the interviewer is simply asking me from a list of written questions? It is not overly clear.
I have also been asked to prepare a "biography" which seems easy enough - sort of like a CV of where I got my education, professional experience etc. Is this common? I am based in Ticino and reading through everyone's experiences it does seem that everyone has slightly different experiences so wondering how common this is. They provide all the information they want so it's not an issue, but interested to hear how this was actually used in the interview if anyone has specific experience on this. | | | | | I had my interview & test today, so thought I would follow up to add to this thread as mine appears slightly different to others.
I was given 9 pages of written questions, though around 30 had been highlighted that I was told I needed to answer in 40 minutes. This appeared to be the list of 'standardized' questions I have read others have done elsewhere. Despite being told that I would be tested on all levels (federal, cantonal, communal) these questions more or less focused on the federal level. These questions ranged from single word / date answers, to others where I needed to write complete sentences, for example, "what does the Red Cross do?"...
The questions ranged from the easy (how many members of the Federal Council are there, 3 swiss lakes, 3 national dishes, phone numbers of emergency services, famous swiss, William Tell etc) to harder (where is the seat of the pharmaceutical industry in Switzerland, what are the values of Switzerland, obligations of Swiss etc etc) to the slightly absurd, IMHO, (who deals with issues like domestic abuse and violence?)
Bit difficult to know exactly how I did - the simple stuff was straightforward, describing the differences between referendums and popular initiatives also fine, but some of the oddball, leftfield stuff was a little weird and is not obviously covered in any of the material I was given or could find when looking for Swiss-Italian specific content.
After this, I was asked some questions relating to my integration here in Switzerland. Despite having been asked to provide a biography, I was then more or less asked the same questions - which she then typed into her computer - that I had included on this in respect to what I like to do in my free time, the sort of events etc I go to, and things around Swiss friends. Being completely honest on this latter part, it has been quite difficult in my time here to find legitimate Swiss friends. The company I worked for was about 75-80% Italian with the remainder being expats. Even in everyday meetings, for example, I have become good friends with my physiotherapist (though he is Italian), it has been difficult to find actual Swiss people. Recently I have been volunteering in an attempt to change this, but when you spend 9 hours a day in an office, or more recently at home due to the pandemic, this was tricky to provide a clear answer on - though this of course is entirely on me.
The interviewer was very friendly, spoke slowly and clearly and made clear that the answers I had written go straight to Bern for marking and they handle practically everything. So off it goes to them again, and maybe I'll hear something in the next 6-8 weeks based on the timelines of a few others in this thread. Keep you posted...

With Facilitated Naturalization, you can move when you want. You must juste tell to SEM. ask your municipality or Canton to be sure.
Best regards

Best regards | | | | | Thank you for your response. May I ask you a question, did you receive your passport yet? I read that the design has been changed and from 1 October they will issue new passports only. Did you get a new design? Is it very different? Do you like it? I am really curious how they changed it |

It is very, very unlikely anyone gets the new design before that date. https://www.fedpol.admin.ch/fedpol/d...eantragen.html | The following 2 users would like to thank aSwissInTheUS for this useful post: | |

| | Re: My Facilitated Naturalization application experience | Quote: | | | | | So I have been chasing SEM because of the lack of answers.
And got last Friday after chasing them by mail and email, 2 new forms to fill :
- statement I am a good boy
- statement I am still married.
I sent them back and will now see how long it takes. | | | | | Update
26/09 : got an email saying it will take them another 2-3 months
17/10 : they write to tell me that since I just moved from ZH to AR, I am not yet in the cantonal database called ZEMIS. I called the canton and was told the waiting time can be 5months except if I pay the fast processing fee of 53.-. I paid the “Auslander Steuer” and my status is updated on the 19/10
22/10 : received the letter saying that I am provisionally Swiss, that Gemeinde and Canton have 30days to oppose the decision.
A few more weeks and I am done.
It is a mystery why it took so long.

SEM in Bern will not tell you if you are stuck.

I can now apply for the passport.
It started in June 2021 and completed in December 2022.
Quite a shocking long time compared to the other EF new Swissies.
My wife applied for a French naturalisation and got it under 3 months.

Hello...I just wanted to thank people who contributed to this thread. It has been very helpful. After many years , I can finally say I am a genevois
I received this week what people here call "golden letter" saying that no opposition was made from the commune.
Does this mean I can apply directly for a passport via online? Or should I wait for another communication?
Thanks a lot again for the valuable input.
