Permit B - EU - Processing time

Hi,

I've applied to the B permit in Geneva last January. After 7 weeks waiting I still haven't received the permit. I was told because I'm an EU the process would be easier and it would take around 2 to 3 weeks. However after all this time the status of my permit request hasn't changed. It still is "A l'examen". Meanwhile I started my new job. Should I go myself to the cantonal office in Geneva and ask about the permit? Is this a normal situation?

Thank you

Very normal. They really can’t deny you a permit as a EU citizen and having a job. There is no problem when the dossier is under review. 7 weeks, ive had colleagues wait 8 months.

Ha .. ha? 7 weeks?

I waited mine for 2,5 months. My girlfriend got hers after 6 months.
Both EU citizens.

On topic, Geneva takes way more time than most other cantons. Don't sweat it. If you go and ask them about it they'll just tell you to sit tight and wait.

I am in Zurich and it took 2 months from memory. Even the renewal which is a rubber stamp job effectively took 6 weeks. I wouldnt worry

Another reason to live in a smaller town, one week every time :-)

The thing is when I go to the kreisburo there is never a queue and they are really friendly and accommodating. I don't get the impression they are inundated with work. I think the time it takes is one of those great Swiss mysteries.

At least they are faster than the tax office

Wow, I didn't know it could be so bad in Zurich (city). I live in Zurich too and all renewals (1 L, 2 B) always took exactly 5 business days between "turned the stamped renewal form in at Kreisburo" and "got the new permit card by registered mail"
L->B and B->C conversions did take 2 months though, but I always thought that was because of Bern being involved.

Re: Permit B - EU - Processing time

Take the average processing time in German-speaking cantons and multiple it by 2 to get the French time. Times 3 for Italian ones.
