Processing time for Permit in kanton Luzern

Hello guys, before a month i signed a contract with employer for job in kanton Luzern, im Eu-2 Bulgaria he told me he will apply for me for a permit in the migrations. He also told me processing would take 1-2 weeks but im already waiting a month. Is this normal? This waiting is so annoying.

It is how it is and no, you cannot start working until that process is completed.

Thansk for the answer, i saw from other threads that people from eu can work while their permit is processing, one says its possible one says its not, little bit confused now.😁😁😁What about the contract? Is it active now, or it becomes active when the permit is out?

You're EU-2, which means you're subject to quotas unfortunately.

Re: Processing time for Permit in kanton Luzern

I am also Bulgarian. If possible, ask your employer for a contract with duration for less than a year, then you will get an L Permit immediately (as no quotas exist for L Permits). On June 1st 2019, when all restrictions for EU 2 fall down (and no further safeguard clause is possible), you can change the permit to B 5-year permit if your employment contract is a long-term one (over a year).

Yep i know this, but that doesnt mean i cant apply for permit or work. Quotas are only for b permits.

I think when people say it takes 6 months, they mean it takes 6 months until the permit (the card) is physically in your hand (e.g., they send it by post). And that's correct, it sometimes takes a long time, until you physically receive the permit.

However, your work authorization is approved way before you receive the permit card physically. I think you can start working as soon as you have an official approval from the authorities (normally in form of a letter), and this does not take 6 months! Maybe 1-2 months at most, or as you said some weeks.

So maybe you want to contact your employer and ask them to touch base with the relevant authorities and ask them about the status of your work permit and an estimation of when it will get approved.

Re: Processing time for Permit in kanton Luzern

Yes getting approval and having the card are two different things. If you get a letter or if your employer does, you should be fine to start. Just declare yourself to the migration office and bring the letter.
