Visa L, changing an employer

Dear all,
I'd like to ask for help to understand my options better.

I'm non-EU, non-shengen citizen, originally from Eastern Europe.
I live and work for an employer in Zurich, having visa L, extended after first year.
My wife has L visa (family reunion reason) and we live together.

Unfortunately, the job doesn't look as exciting as before, the company goals have changed in the direction I don't feel comfortable to go for as motivated as before.

Could I ask to shed some light on my case, if I consider changing the job?
Let me know what questions I need to ask myself, as I'm not closely familiar with a procedure in my case.

The obvious question (which I don't have an answer yet) whether it's possible at all without leaving the country to change the employer while having L visa.

If it's not possible, then the next question whether it makes sense to do my job right until the end of the second year of L and applying for B?

Thank you

You're not allowed to change jobs on an L permit so that wouldn't be possible. Nor necessarily would it be possible with a B, since these are usually tied to an employer and any new employer would have to make a very good case for the switch. You cannot apply for a B, it has to be done by your employer.

Thank you, Medea, for the valuable input.

Do you know where I can find the information about the following case:
if I decide to leave the company, how much time do I have to leave the country?

Re: Visa L, changing an employer

That would depend on what the canton decides and your nationality. Once you resign you effectively no longer have a permit to live/work here, but the canton may grant you some time to organise your leave taking. And if you come from a country that doesn't need a tourist visa to visit Switzerland then you automatically become a tourist again and would have up to 3 months to leave.

You would also need to check things like when you can terminate your rental contract since that usually has a notice period between telling the landlord/agency you're leaving and the actual date you can vacate the property on. Check your contract for this as they vary. For example when we were renting here in Fribourg we had a 6 month notice period, i.e. had to notify the landlord/agency by the 31st March to be able to vacate on the 30th September, otherwise we would have to liable for the remaining months' rent of the contract.
