New requirements for permit renewal

Hi all

Are there new language requirements to renew B or C permits?

I have heard it is mandatory to have B1 level certification for B permit level

Please share whatever you may know

And you might want to say what your nationality is as the language test requirement differs per nationality (or as said, check the links)

Re: New requirements for permit renewal

I was a bit curious, after reading the 01/2019 Integration laws; how does the different nationality affect what one can expect?

I understand about the B1 language requirements for a new C-permit or Facilitated Citizenship after 5 years for certain individuals, but I have not found how the nationality of a person will affect the process.

For example MDCP stated non-EU but didn't state where he or she is from.

I am American so I am still a bit confused if a C-Permit will be in order at the end of the year for myself with an A2 level or if it must be B1. I point that out because under the old law at least Americans and Canadians where eligible for a quicker but "normal?" C-Permit after 5 years stay in Switzerland. I have about 6 months before I reach the 5 year point here. I will technically qualify for Facilitated Citizenship but nervous about the B1 language requirement. I simply don't believe I will be at that point the day of my 5 years anniversary here.

So not to go too far of subject non-EU vs. EU I am not sure how that is processed.

Early C is B1 oral, and A1 for writing, officially if you do not have such you can be put back to a B permit.

And nationality is important since for Example I as being Dutch have zero language requirements, but my Swedish wife does have them.

For some more information (and perhaps confusion?) you might like to follow the discussion on this recent thread, in particular about which nationalities do and don't have language requirements.

Re: New requirements for permit renewal

I think if you do not have right language levels : C will go to B and Those with B may be questioned or expected to start or may be given some time to get on the required certificate.. BUt looks like these are new requirements at the time of renewal.. could be linked with cantons or Giemande?

To go back to your original question the way you worded it..

for Permit renewal I believe A1 level or enrolled in a course is sufficient to renew that. The acquisition of a new C permit appears now to be with the B1 language level. In principal of the language skills I would really like to learn more, I have in my experiences as a native english speaker found it quite difficult in Switzerland, as the majority of people I interact with on a regular basis prefer to speak English over high german for more than 2-3 minutes before switching back to Swiss German, so it has been a challenge to learn the proper German.

I am curious though if Iam at A2 language level currently and started the paperwork for citizenship, could I be at the required B1 level before I would have to prove language requirements?

How would anybody prove you're not at B1 currently without your test score?
