Re: Marriage Preparation for South African engaged to EU Permit B holder

LETTER RECEIVED FROM ZIVILSTANDSAMT:

Translated from German. I used Google translate

Conclusion of marriage preparation proceedings between [NAME REMOVED], German citizen, [ADDRESS REMOVED] and [NAME REMOVED], South African national, residing in South Africa, Johannesburg

We checked the request for the preparation of the marriage of the above-mentioned couple and stated that all conditions are met. The three-month Traufrist is triggered after the signature on the appropriate confirmation of names and citizenship.

The wedding date can be agreed directly with us after the arrival of the bride.

This confirmation was created at the request of Mr. [NAME REMOVED]

---End of letter---

My fiancÚ still needs to go to the immigration offices. So we still have another bridge to cross.

If anyone knows how long this is likely to take and what obstacles we may come across, please share so we can be prepared. I don't want to be excited yet, but I'm impressed with the Swiss efficiency that my fiance likes to brag about.

PS. I hope this is giving someone hope. Especially those who are on the verge of giving up.

I will post an update of how it all goes on Monday.

Based on the translation, it sounds like they might only need one more signature or something. Then they would tell you to either send your passport
to have the D-visa stamped into it or maybe you could set an appointment to go to Pretoria yourself. Once you've got the visa, book your flights!

Thanks for the response. I think I'll go to Pretoria myself so I don't run the risk of my passport getting lost and the wait would kill me.

He will be going there on Monday. But all the documents that were required from him have been submitted.

UPDATE:

Immigration has sent authorisation for Swiss Embassy in Pretoria to issue the visa.

I will be fetching it on Friday and fly out next week. So I'll get to celebrate my fiance's birthday with him.

How did it go, Pam?
Were you issued your D Visa alright, and did you, or will you soon, fly to Switzerland? And is this the real immigration, for definite? With marriage on the date you'd hoped?

Re: Marriage Preparation for South African engaged to EU Permit B holder

Hi Doropfiz,

So sorry I haven't been posting updates. Things got quite hectic with the partying and packing.

So on Thursday 18.07, I received a message from the Embassy that my Visa is ready for collection. I collected it on Friday. So my passport has a sticker on it now.

The visa is valid from the 27th, so my flight is on Friday evening. I'll be in Switzerland this coming weekend.

I guess it's safe to say that the visa process took exactly 2 weeks.

I know that I still have a lot to do and I'm grateful for the English forum. Thank you so much for all the help and words of encouragement.

I'll be updating soon ❤
