will that be possible to extend the visitor visa for this reason??

Re: Extension of visitor visa

How far along is the pregnancy? Has a doctor said she shouldn't travel by air? Unless she's past the usual flight rules for pregnant women or there's a medical reason why she shouldn't fly I can't see that being accepted. If she's that close to giving birth she shouldn't have come here to start with. This could well be seen as an attempt to get her here permanently on your part while bypassing the rules.

Best to talk to your cantonal migration office to see what they have to say.

Re: Extension of visitor visa

And when you talk to the Migrationsamt, a question that might arise is how you will pay for your wife's medical care, especially if a doctor indicates that she will have to give birth here.

Not a pregnancy, but friends needed to extend a parent's visa due to a health emergency. The parent's travel medical insurance was deemed insufficient to cover the cost of hospitalization, so the friends had to sign a guarantee they would cover the full cost of the parent's medical care, showing financial wherewithal to be able to do so. Finances seemed to loom large in the decision to extend the parent's visitor visa.

Now that is only one anecdote, I have no idea what general policies are. But you should be prepared if similar questions arise with your application.

Hope you find a solution, and all the best to you and your wife.

Re: Extension of visitor visa

This is a very difficult situation because a Schengen Area tourist visa cannot be extended, you will need to as the authorities to allow your wife to remain in Switzerland on compassionate grounds. To prepare for this, you’re going to need two things:

- A doctors report stating that it is impossible (not just advisable) for her to fly due to a complication resulting from her pregnancy.

- You need to be able to show that you can fully cover the medical costs etc. of her stay. This may not be so easy as the purpose of her stay is no longer tourism, so her travel insurance most likely will not cover this.

Good luck I hope it works out for you.
