How to get a suppressor [pistol silencer]?

Would like to get a suppressor for my Sig Sauer P226 Mark 25.

Is there a way to get a permit for this?

Highly unlikely, why would you need a silencer for a pistol ?

Your first step would be to go ask the Police/Gendarmerie

Aside from the obvious reason, I like playing with accessories: pimp my pistol, so to speak. E.g. laser sight to help train shooting without aiming.

Have a muzzle flash suppressor already but would like to take it a step further.

The frightening part is that you boast about it on a public forum. It‘s childish...

Re: How to get a suppressor?

The procedure varies by canton. In Geneva, a suppressor requires an exceptional permit. These are often granted, although you need to have a reason, such as being a collector, or needing to make less noise when you’re shooting.

You’ll need a threaded barrel, which requires a permit too.

You should discuss with the armoury, or the permit issuing authority in your canton.

Thank you.

Am surprised that a threaded barrel requires a special permit as another pistol in my collection (H&K Mk 23 .45) by default comes with a threaded barrel and I do not recall that being a special aspect of the process to obtain the permit to acquire that pistol.

Getting an adjusted threaded barrel for the Sig shouldn't be too difficult as they can be bought over the counter in the US.

I suggest to be really sure, bring it back cabin baggage

I'm not sure I'm saying that a threaded barrel requires a special permit, and perhaps you've got more knowledge here than I do.

If you buy a threaded barrel for a pistol that currently doesn't have one, it's an essential component of a firearm, and requires a permit.

Unlike the exceptional permit for a suppressor, (PAE in Suisse Romande), I believe the threaded barrel is the same permit (PAA in Suisse Romande) that you use to acquire a pistol.

The armoury, or cantonal firearms will know for sure.

We are not in the US, and things sold there are most likely not at all legal here.

I think those are banned. but if you need it just to reduce noise when shooting in your own premises, it's not hard to make a DIY version.

In the US, the regulated component is the receiver - the receiver is 'the' gun, and most other things are not tracked or licensed. Barrels, bolts, gas systems - pretty much any other part of a standard gun is over the counter in the US.

I don't know the exact criteria in Switzerland, but I'm given to understand that typically it is the pressure bearing components which are tracked and licensed in Europe. Under that criteria a barrel would most certainly count, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if bringing one into the country without Swiss paperwork was tantamount to smuggling in a complete gun.

Have you considered joining a local gun club? Besides providing a time and place to practice, you might find people knowledgeable about the local rules and criteria. Quite possibly, they'd have more knowledge than the typical random forum goer. Also, once they got to know you, they'd presumably be less prone to confuse you with a stereotypical out-of-control American gun nut.
