Processing time for guarantee of residence permit (EU/EFTA)

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

Does anyone have reasonably firsthand knowledge of the approximate processing time for a EU/EFTA Guarantee of Residence Permit application? (Zusicherung der Aufenthaltsbewilligung). We understand that this process is rather rare for EU/EFTA citizens; however, in our instance it is being requested as part of a property transaction we hope to complete at the same time as our arrival in spring 2020. We also understand processing times to vary from canton to canton, but it would be nice to have a general understanding of what to expect. The authorities in our future canton of residence (GR) appear to be well-resourced and responsive, so I am hopeful they will be on the quicker end of the spectrum.

Thanks very much.

Well, the good news is I can answer my own question. Here it is for posterity: the authorities in GR estimate a 4-6 week processing time for an EU/EFTA guarantee of residence permit application.

I've not heard of the "guarantee of residence permit" before. Please keep us updated on the process and how it goes.

Right. My understanding is it was a fairly common practice before the Freedom of Movement bilateral agreements. Now, it's rare for EU/EFTA citizens since they have the right to take residence in CH, start working, and then apply for the requisite permit.

I gather the guarantee of permit is useful for: non-EU/EFTA, anyone seeking clarity prior to moving to CH, and anyone seeking to allay concerns held by a bank/landlord/employer/seller of real estate that the person will in fact be allowed to live in CH. Also, in a blended family, say: EU husband, non-EU wife, the process can be used to allow wife to legally arrive at the same time as husband since the family reunification application has been pre-approved.

It's briefly mentioned here (German):
