Happy Saturday all!

I’m involved in some expat forums throughout Switzerland, mainly on Facebook.

Lately, there has been a massive increase in people who have been saying “I want to move to Switzerland, I’m sure I can find a job” from the US and other outside EU countries. While I know there have always been those people out there, the most alarming part is that others on the forum advise them that it is easy and possible to do.

I of course immediately tell them it isn’t so easy and often send them to EF where they will get more information and perhaps the harsher truth.

As the problems of poorly ran governments, poverty etc. continue to increase around the world, I wonder if you have also noticed this increase in people thinking they can just simply move here because they want to. Aside from legitimate refugee situations, I find it rather arrogant, especially from The Americans.

Thanks!
In 99% of the cases its just pure fantasy. Day dreaming. .001% actually do it and succeed

Re: Growing trend of people who think they can just move here.

Why donít you go outside and enjoy the sun? People will move to wherever their lives take them and no amount of online deterrence will stop them.

The Swiss immigration system is designed in such a way that you canít move here without a sponsor (job or relationship) and receive public funds (if that is whatís irritating you).

The insignificant proportion of people that do come here without a job or partner (and it is certainly possible to do so) are at the expense of their savings/family/etc and not to society.

I'm in full agreement. There are far too many foreigners here.

I think we should take the lead of Emmett Watson, a columnist for the Seattle Times, who complained that Seattle, Washington was being overrun by newcommers and decided to do something about it. He founded the KBO group (Keep the Bastards Out). This was effectively an information campaign aimed at presenting invented negative aspects of Seattle, to make it appear an unattractive place to live.

If we were to do the same in Switzerland we could start with stories about not being permitted to flush the toilet after 10pm, people being so ignorant that they cannot name the president (of the Bundesrat), impossible to find brown sugar, very restricted employee protection rights etc. etc.
I think it did exist and LiB was in charge of it

Well, the president keeps changing without us voting. Seriously, if we didn't vote about it, it's not happening! TIS.

As soon as CH signs the EU agreement then they can start sending thousands of refugees here. They want that here for cheap labour

They will obviously speed up the processing of these people into the work force

Just shows how little you know about Switzerland and how it works, if you think that can just happen. The SVP would be delighted with such an agreement, theyíd finally have a winner on their hands.

Refugees aren't allowed to work.
Younger refugees, once having received official permission,

1. need a year of integration classes
2. then learn a certified skill (2+ years of schooling)
3. can start work

It's a long, lonely process but I've seen quite a few sucess stories.

Just tell the Americans they'll still have to fill in US tax returns and could owe the US tax on top of Swiss ones. That should help wake them up a bit.
