VAT returns on a L120 Days short stay B permit

Hi all,

Happy to have joined the forum, and to be working in CH.

I was wondering if any of you know if Iím allowed VAT returns at the airport for purchases made in Switzerland while on the L-120 Days B permit.

Thank you and nice to meet you all!

You need to show them proof of address outside Switzerland. (also only valid for bills of 300,- incl. mwst minimum.)

L-120 Days B permit.
Is it an L or a B permit or a 120days permit?

120-days permit
This type of permit is intended for foreign nationals who work in Switzerland regularly but occasionally. Individuals who obtain this permit may stay in Switzerland for up to 120 days during a 12-month period and work flexibly within the framework of the allowed purpose.

Short-term residence permits L and B
Both of these permits are aimed at foreign nationals who live and have their place of residence in Switzerland. These people are granted either an L or a B permit, depending on the length of their stay or contractual agreement.

Re: VAT returns on a L120 Days short stay B permit

According Art. 19a VZAE the 120-permit is a special permit L.
https://www.admin.ch/opc/de/classifi...ndex.html#a19a
This assumes the holder of this permit is a Swiss resident.

The rules for a VAT free purchase for tourists are listed here:
https://www.estv.admin.ch/estv/en/ho.../tax-free.html

An important condition is that the purchaser must not have its residency in Switzerland. And be aware that if the shop does not offer tax free shopping there will be no tax refund.

The save assumption would be to purchase the relevant goods only after deregistraiton and ask the Federal Tax Administration before hand about eligibility. Contact details can be found in the above link.
