Tax Return if trailing, non working spouse

Hi, As a non-working, trailing spouse do I need to submit a tax return form. For information we have lived in Basel Land for 9 years, partner works, I am stay at home mum to two teenagers. It’s the ‘unmarried’ status that worries me as my partner says I am classed as a single person even though we’ve been and lived together for 19 years. Asking now as I recently heard a comment that only one tax form per household needs to be submitted. Thanks in advance for your helpful answers

Re: Tax Return if trailing, non working spouse

Presumably you are not included on your partner‘s tax return.

If you have lived here for 9 years and earn nothing, I don^‘t understand what you are concerned about...

Re: Tax Return if trailing, non working spouse

My wife had to do tax forms before we got married but lived together, but she's Swiss.

She also had no income most years.

Have you been paying AVS? If not, they will send you a bill for 9x500 or so.

Re: Tax Return if trailing, non working spouse

My husband pays my AVS contributions and we file a joint return. I don't work but have to declare things like any shares I own and my joint ownership of 2 properties back in the UK, I also have to provide credit card statements for a VISA card registered to an address in UK. In Switzerland I have to provide invoices for any courses I've attended i.e. German classes. I'm not sure how it works if you are not married.

If you are not married, you are single, and are treated as such.

Co-habitating has no effect whatsoever on taxes, AVS, etc.
