Cohabitation & long term residency permit for non-EU Swiss resident (Bern)

Dear all,
I am quite new here so apologies if I am missing a detail. I have been through different threads but couldn't find an answer to my very peculiar issue. I will summarize it briefly below and it would be great if you can let me know what you think.

-I am a non-EU/EFTA national (US) living in Bern with a B Permit (renewing it every year). I work at the University of Bern.

-I have a Swiss girlfriend and we do not want to get married but thinking of cohabitation - civil partnership.

My question is:

-Would such a partnership (without marriage) allow me to apply for long term residency?

Any help is appreciated!
Thanks!

No, since the Swiss will still see you as two individuals and not a couple in this respect I think. Civil partnership doesn't exist in Switzerland for hetreosuxual couples.

"Legal situation without a cohabitation agreement
As cohabitation is not recognised in law, you and your partner are to a large extent treated as individuals - and not as a married couple or as a couple in a registered partnership."

Thanks so much - that's actually what I was looking for ... bit of a pity for me of course but at least it seems straightforward.

Iirc - and maybe 3Wishes can confirm since I think they've been through the marriage side of things with permits - even if you did marry I think you'd still only get an annual B permit that has to be renewed. Or at least you have to confirm every year that you're still married and don't plan to divorce.

Yep that's right. But then after 3 years of marriage you can apply for citizenship.

Yes. But it sounded like the OP has probably already been here for those 2 extra years needed. I could be wrong though.
