B Permit extension (non EU) - coronavirus times

Hi,

I am non-EU and was up for the annual extension of my B permit. Now I have received a letter asking me to submit proof of language -A1 (I believe I am at A2 level). I do not have a certificate for it and all examination centres are closed (as far as I know) because of the lockdown.
I wanted to know if anyone has had such an experience or a suggestion on how to handle this.
Any input would be highly appreciated.

Cheers,
S

Maybe send out an e-mail to the migration office to ask about this given the current situation?

I'm not sure but I think you can also enroll in a language class for sometime later this summer and show them proof of enrollment?

Yes, that is also an option. The actual enforcement tends to vary per canton, but from what I understand if this is the first time you are asked for it you can show proof of enrollment in a class.

While usually Swiss authorities work very much according to the book, this is one of the cases where a simple "I was scheduled for the language test at place X, but they cancelled it due to COVID-19 rules enacted by the Bundesrat" email might easily result in an extension, no questions asked.

Re: B Permit extension (non EU) - coronavirus times

I am also in the same situation. As soon as I got this letter in February, I sent them a reply with a copy of Kursbestätigung of me attending B1 course. But I didn't hear from them for about 3 weeks and I went to the Gemeinde where the Lady in the reception checking the computer when I told her what I was there for. She told that I will get a reply within a week but in vain there was yet no reply. So 2 weeks back I went to the Gemeinde again but we weren't allowed to go in. There were three staffs outside asking people for what we had come. I explained them about my condition and she went in and came out in about 5 minutes. She told I need to be registered for an A 2 exam by June 30 and if the state of the country continues as it is now due to Coronavirus and I can't register for the exams, I should send them an email. So she just wrote i have time until June 30 on the letter. That's all. Hope it helped. Maybe you should go to the Gemeinde and find out. That's the only way.

Out of the accepted institutes, SDS has started running the tests. I was able to register for one of the tests. You can try with them. if any date is available before the end of the month.
