EU/EFTA changing cantons while out of job?

Theoretical question, but what happens if an EU/EFTA person that has B-permit (5y) changes his/her canton while out of job?

Will the new canton provide the same permit with no change to it, or will they downgrade it to L?

For an example, person is fully employed in Vaud with permanent contract. Decides to quit or is fired and then relocates to Zurich and will not have a job lined up there.

Re: EU/EFTA changing cantons while out of job?

It depends upon your tax contribution in the last 2 years. How long did you work in Switzerland/EU in the last 24 months? Have you already registered with the ORP? If so, your ORP advisor must approve your decision to move to a new canton - otherwise, there are chances that they may revoke your permit.

I have moved from Zurich to Bern while being unemployed and got the permit reissued without any problem (of course I took permission from my then RAV advisor in Zurich before moving to Bern). Although I was eligible for 260 days of unemployment benefits (with 2 months penalty as I quit the job on my own), they didn`t downgrade my permit. I was allowed to retain my B permit with the same expiry date. However, this was in the year 2015-16. A lot has changed in the last few years. So I would suggest you to continue to live in Vaud until you find a new job.
