Marriage preparation visa Hong Kong / Switzerland

Hi all, newbie here!

I know there have already been a few posts about marriage in Switzerland but I keep finding confusing and contradictory information, it's making me freak out.

Here's my situation: my boyfriend (HK citizen) and I (Swiss citizen) are thinking about getting married as soon as I obtain my master's degree (summer 2021), and we are wondering how much money we need in order to be granted the permission to marry and a D visa. I am still studying and living with my parents at the moment, but I should be able to start a PhD in September 2021. EPFL PhD students earn about 52'000 francs gross per year. According to a tax calculator, that's about 3'500 CHF net per month. Additionally, I have about 30'000 CHF in a savings account, and my fiancé might be able to contribute about 10'000 if necessary. My question is, if we apply for marriage preparation and the D visa in the spring or early summer 2021 (aiming for a summer wedding), and I show a contract for the PhD due to start in September as well as a bank statement of my savings, are we safe or do we risk a rejection? Can my savings compensate for the low income and the fact that my PhD won't have started yet by the time of the application?

Most sources online mention that the financial situation of the Swiss fiancée will be checked, but clear amounts of income / savings are never shown. Can anyone who has had a marriage preparation visa approved tell me how much they were earning / had in the bank? I've seen one website saying the Swiss fiancée has to sign a financial guarantee for 5 years, is that true??

Thanks in advance for your help!

P.S.: I don't know if this info would influence the decision in any way, but my fiancé has been studying for 2 years in Switzerland, obtained a master's degree and worked here in international organizations for 1 year. He will probably have a decent chance of finding a job once he gets his B permit.
