If I study master degree in Switzerland, can my children also go to school here

Hi all:

One of my friends is coming to Switzerland for her master study (so holding a L1 permit), she has a child and wonder whether she can bring her child here and go to the local school here. Anyone know this or has experience on this?

Many thanks

Is a master's degree an L permit whereas bachelor is B? That sounds weird.

Aside from L vs B, it sounds like she and the child's father are not still together? If the father is alive he'll probably need to give permission for the child to move to Switzerland.

My friend is a single mother and they are now in the USA, not in Switzerland. I thought study here is all in L permit, maybe I am wrong

A bachelor is typically three or sometimes four years long whereas a master’s is only one or maybe two.
That probably accounts for the difference.

A student can bring their dependants.... but she'll have to prove she has enough money to support both of them whilst they are here and she is studying.

How old is the child? Might be a bit disruptive to put a non German/French speaking child into local school for just 1 or 2 years.

Masters should be a educational B permit, FYI. Unless your masters is < 12 months I suppose.
Outside of the rules about dependents, as Island Monkey pointed out, there should be no issue sending them to public schools.
But yeah, depending on age, shelling out the $$$ for an English-speaking school may be better. If they're < 10 years they'll probably pick up the local language just fine, will just be a crappy adjustment period.

I´d imagine that most Masters students do not have the funds to send the kid to a private school?

Local schools have special programs for kids that need to learn the language (DAZ in the German speaking part)
