How/When to get L-permit in Zurich

Hi Forum,

I seek advice regarding starting a short-term work/stay in Zurich.

Context:
I am a PhD student taking a study break to do a 6 months internship in Zurich. I already have a work contract starting from October 2020. I attend a UK university and I am an EU national (Slovakia). The internship company is asking for an L-permit.

Questions:
I understand there are several steps required for this whole operation to work smoothly:
- arrive in Zurich
- obtain L-permit
- register with the local authorities
- find an accommodation
- setup a bank account

In what order do I need to do the steps above?
When is a good time to start taking the steps?
Am I missing any important steps?

Thank you kind people for your wisdom,
Martin

Re: How/When to get L-permit in Zurich

Arrive in Zurich
Find accommodation if possible because
when you register you'll probably be asked for this along with your employment contract and passport
Note it'll take a while to get your L permit so whether you'll be able to open a bank account with just a document from the gemeinde to say you've registered I don't know.

If you can arrive a couple of weeks before you're due to start then that will hopefully give you a chance to sort out accommodation, register and get settled in before starting work.
