Non-EU Master student -Thesis in Switzerland University in Germany

Hello everyone

I am studying in a university in Germany and as a non-EU student, I have a student visa in Germany. I have an opportunity to do my thesis in Switzerland but I couldn't find any useful information about my case.

Should I apply for a definite visa and if my chances are high of getting accepted and how long will the visa be valied, regarding that I want to do my thesis in a year.

Many thanks in advance for your help! ^^

I also want to add that, I want to be still residing in Germany as I live on the borders.

I've never heard of this to be honest, but I'm pretty sure that if you have a Swiss student permit you're going to have to live in Switzerland while you do your thesis.

Inquire at your chosen uni, but your visa is a Schengen one, and Switzerland is part of Schengen, so should be valid here for the duration of your thesis if it's valid in Germany.

Isnīt that valid for travel only and not for study/work? Why else would there be student permits?

The thing is I have my student residence permit in Germany not Switzerland and I want to do my thesis in Switzerland.

From my contact with the representatives. They told me I'm only allowed to enter for less than 90 days in a span of 180 days and if I want to work there and reside I have to apply for a visa.

I do want to do my thesis there (work) but I don't want to reside there.

Yes exactly. They told me only touristic purposes are allowed for the 90 days span.

Re: Non-EU Master student -Thesis in Switzerland University in Germany

Then you will probably have to live here and give up your german permit

So you are saying that somebody from Zimbabwe who has a visa/permit for Norway can just decide to work in Switzerland...

There is no way around this. If you want to do your thesis here then you're going to have to move here for the duration. A German student permit does nothing for you in Switzerland; you need a Swiss student permit and that requires you to live/study/work here. So either accept that or look to do your thesis somewhere in Germany.

True that!

If you are away from DE for more than 6 months then you need a letter from the Rathaus to reenter back to DE. Your DE residency stays intact. Also do not forget to deregister yourself before you move to Swiss.

Swiss visa paper work is expected to be done by the company and there is no way you can initiate that process.
