Work Permit Process in Canton Schwyz

Hi Everyone!

I'm a non-EU MBA candidate at the University of St. Gallen with some work experience here in Switzerland. I'm currently going through the work permit process (B-Permit) in Canton Schwyz. I was wondering how quick the permit process was in Schwyz, because I've heard that Zurich was notorious for being very slow.

The wait is quite nerve-wracking, so I was hoping some people could share their experiences?

Thank you!

I can share my experience in Vaud (also Non-EU). Having worked in CH for a year on L, I applied for a B with the same employer. I got the permit in roughly 6 weeks.

Thank you! M yproblem is that my company doesn't want to go the L visa route because they're having trouble renewing it with a different employee. So if I don't get this visa, I may be out of a job

Hiring a non-EU is more work and cost for an employer, so if they're not accustomed to doing it they might be reluctant. Medea will be along to link to what an employer has to prove in order to hire you. AFAIK employers don't get to apply specifically for B or L. They apply and the authorities decide what you get. L permit is common if it's a short-term (i.e. 1 year or less) contract.

Permit processing time varies wildly, especially with the Corona situation thrown in. 8-12 weeks is common, or was before all this.

Here's the link

https://www.sem.admin.ch/sem/en/home...zulassung.html

However, if you graduated from a Swiss uni within the last 6 months then the above doesn't really apply. You should be on pretty much an equal footing with EU nationals, but the position must be of economic and/or scientific benefit to Switzerland to get a permit.

If you're outside that 6 months then the link does apply and there's no guarantee a permit will be granted. If your potential employer doesn't want to go to the time and expense of applying for a permit for you then you won't have a job, it's as simple as that.

I can only answer as an EU citizen in Canton Zürich (with foreign employer): I'm about two months into the process, and I'm already counting on at least another month of processing time. I've heard from others this amount of time is normal (before Covid-19)

Re: Work Permit Process in Canton Schwyz

My first B permit took 7 days to process in Kanton Schwyz. But I'm an EU citizen. I'm in the process of renewing it currently, have been advised 2-3 weeks on timing, again Kanton Schwyz.
