Residence permit expiring at the same time as my lease

Hi,

I have received a letter from my Stadt saying my residence permit is about to expire, and that I need to re-register in a few days.

However, my apartment lease is also expiring at the same date in September, and there is large possibility I will not be living in this Stadt anymore. (If I find another accommodation somewhere else, say.)

What should I do?

Yes, of course, but maybe I haven't yet found an apartment. Residence permit needs to be renewed two weeks in advance.

As you don't even know if and when and where you find something to live, you need to renew your permit there now.
You won't get a new flat without a valid permit anyway.

Re: Residence permit expiring at the same time as my lease

An update here: applied for a new residence permit, but couldn't find somewhere to live in the meantime.

I will get back to my home country and return when I find something. There is no hurry.

However, the Migrationsamt is still sending my residence permit to my old address, in a registered letter.

How to get it if it's after I move out and leave the country? Can someone else who I trust pick it up?

All the previous letters with my residence permits (also Zurich, the city of) had the instructions to ship them as B-Post to the Zurich Town Hall if not deliverable to the intended recipient so I guess you'll be able to pick it up there.

Re: Residence permit expiring at the same time as my lease

I highly recommend you have your post forwarded to a trusted friend in Swtizerland, or even abroad.

Or leave your forwarding address with the landlord and new tenant, and a few pre-paid envelopes, so they can post them to you (assuming the post is secure).

It's possible to sign a form for a trusted person to pick up registered post...
