Will it be possible for me to move to Switzerland?

Hi all,

I'm a Uk citizen who previously lived in Switzerland, but moved back to London last year after taking up a new job, however with the COVID-19 pandemic, working from home is now a permanent option for me. My partner is considering whether we should move back to Switzerland, but I wanted to know whether anyone has experience of working for a UK company, but living in Switzerland full time?

My company is not based in Switzerland whatsoever, my work will all be UK focused and I'll be paid into my UK accounts, so I won't work in Switzerland or earn an income, but will be able to afford things such as health/private insurance/rent/living costs etc.

Any shared experiences or knowledge would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

What is your partner’s nationality?

And as a Swiss resident you are liable for taxes here.

Search for ANOBAG

ANOBAG - any experiences? Good , bad and the ugl
Kurzarbeit when ANOBAG? Can a foreign company apply for kurzarbeit
Taxing / pension questions for non-Swiss company (but I'm living & working in Suisse)

Won't matter; as bowlie said you'd pay tax here since this is where you'd be resident. You'd also need to have Swiss health insurance.

Another thing you have to consider is the fact that unless the UK/EU come up with some sort of agreement, UK nationals will be treated as non-EU from January 1st 2021 which would make it more difficult for you to move here.

"10. What is the situation for UK nationals wanting to move to Switzerland after 31 December 2020?

UK nationals wanting to move to Switzerland after 31 December 2020 are not covered by the agreement on acquired citizens’ rights.

Unless an additional bilateral agreement between Switzerland and the UK is concluded, UK nationals wanting to move to Switzerland after 31 December 2020 must meet the terms of the Foreign Nationals and Integration Act (FNIA). They would be subject to quotas in such a case.

Switzerland and the UK are conducting talks on a possible future immigration scheme. The exact form of the scheme has not yet been agreed. Any agreement on immigration after the AFMP ceases to apply must respect the terms of the Swiss Constitution (e.g. Art. 121a)."

Medea, any idea if quotas will apply for UK nationals already in Switzerland and renewing their permits?

People already holding permits situation will not change. New arrivals from 3rd countries will be subject to quotas.

so I won't work in Switzerland or earn an income
It does not matter who you work for, you will work in Switzerland and you will earn a taxable income....

I don't see you fitting in to any of the three broad categories for a permit, unless you are the dependant of a permit holder or your partner is Swiss:
- You are employed by a Swiss company and you are either an EU/EEA citizens or a third country national who's presence has been justified by the employer
- You are an EU/EEA citizen entitled to to establish a business here
- You earn sufficient income to live here from a non economic activity source: royalties, investing, pension or savings.

I guess you'll have to see what happens after BREXIT.

he'll fit into the 3rd category. he has foreign income and can support himself. he'll file a tax return here, pay swiss tax and claim back crazy UK tax for all the days he wasn't in the UK. easy B permit and eventual C.

He stated that he will work for a UK based company, that is an economic activity - not royalties, not investment income, not pension and not savings.

Yet many people have used an ANOBAG to do exactly what he wants to do. Has been done, can be done.
