Travel to Switzerland with US Passport

Hi,

Does anyone know if American citizens can come into Switzerland (family visit) if they are coming from a land that is no longer on the quarantine list?

Not they are trying to evade the law but they've been in a country that is not on the quarantine list for the past 3 months.

Does anyone have personal experience? I am getting into an endless internet chase but not able to get any concrete answer.

American Citizens are not subject to quarantine. It is residents of the US regardless of their nationality.

Country of residence is the key here, and you should be able to prove it.

People who have spent time in a country or area with an increased risk of infection and then enter Switzerland must go into quarantine. The countries and areas affected are set down in a list. This list is regularly updated in line with the epidemiological situation.

The situation is very fluid, for example France and Portugal should be on the list, but they are not yet. This could change at a moments notice, unlike the UK, for example, where they give you a couple of days notice.

Itís interesting, unlike some countries - I donít think Switzerland specifies if you are a resident of the US, and have spent more than two weeks in another country you can enter.

This according to the US Embassy:

As of, June 15, Switzerland has lifted all COVID-19 related entry restrictions for travelers from other Schengen countries. The Swiss government has not announced a date when Switzerland will lift the current entry restrictions for U.S. citizens.

Thatís contradictory. The first sentence says Ďtravelers (sic) from other Schengen countries without qualification as to nationality. The second mentions US citizens without qualification as to residence, or travel history.

The only current entry restriction, excluding visas etc., are the requirement to quarantine when required.

I know of an American resident couple who travelled via the UK, where they quarantined for 14 days. A little later they entered Switzerland without having to quarantine.

Who is not allowed to enter Switzerland?

The ban on entry applies to foreign nationals who want to travel to Switzerland from a high-risk country for a stay here of up to three months, i.e.:

Persons who wish to obtain services in Switzerland;
Tourists, visitors and participants in events;
Persons who wish to come to Switzerland for medical treatment that has not yet begun or that is not regarded as urgently required;
Persons seeking employment or who have been invited for a job interview in Switzerland;
Persons who wish to submit an application for a residence permit.
High-risk countries are all the countries outside the Schengen area with the exception of the countries listed in Annex 1 of the COVID-19 Ordinance 3.
And the US is not on the list of exceptions.... so I would say, according to the SEM - US citizens who do not have the right to freedom of movement are not allowed: https://www.sem.admin.ch/sem/en/home...71599224865512

But some people may get in... there are exceptions.

Hi,
Sorry this information might come too late, but generally the answer is Yes you can. I did in August. It's about where you are coming from, not your citizenship. And BTW, they (SEM and consulate) told me that for immeditae family reunification in the case where no visa is required (such as for americans) you can enter anyways, but need to quarantine upon arrival. The big thing is getting the AIRLINE to believe this and let you on the plane. I actually had to get a letter from the local swiss consulate since the airline didn't think I would be allowed to enter and therefore said I might be blocked from boarding

What happened: I am an American. I was in Taiwan. I came to see my girlfriend once they allowed for non-married couple to renunite in August. Didn't have to quarantine since I came from squeaky clean Taiwan and transited through an airport in a country not on the quarantine list. Entered smoothly at Zurich airport.
