Applying for Citizenship BL - birth certificate

We've been putting off applying for citizenship for a while, since my wife is a naturalised British citizen and has no birth certificate and no feasible way of getting one.

But yesterday, we called the Cantonal office responsible and they said - don't worry about it. Just send a letter with your application explaining the lack of birth certificate, and it should be fine.

Today we called the Gemeinde offices to ask them to send us an application form... and they said that, in BL at least, there's no requirement at all for birth certificates. There used to be, but they abolished it.

To paraphrase,

A journey of a thousand francs starts with an application letter.

Good luck and Bon Voyage

Re: Applying for Citizenship BL - birth certificate

Forms have arrived. Strangely, there's two lines for references for the person on the first page, and three on the second for the spouse.

Now we're deciding who has the most solid three referees. Which is a bit weird since we know that we fulfil all the relevant criteria.

With my immediate family in Switzerland, we're 4 Swiss, 3 non-Swiss. Half my household are Swiss.

Re: Applying for Citizenship BL - birth certificate

We had to provide a “familienausweis” which is the collected info from when you registered initially, and that saves the need for birth certificate, marriage certificate etc.
