After Marriage Permit and Tax Return

Hello

I am UK citizen and marry my Swiss partner end of October.
I plan to move permanently to Bern at the end of the Year.

1. After the marriage registration do I automatically receive 'B' permit or is it something I apply for.

2. As it is approaching the end of the tax year in Switzerland will we still be taxed on our joint global income , wealth and assets if I don't have the 'B' Permit

3. or is it better I apply for a permit at the beginning of 2021 - will this mean if I'm married that my income and wealth will not be included in my partners tax return.

Re: After Marriage Permit and Tax Return

If you are married at the end of the year, you are taxed together, regardless of permit.

Re: After Marriage Permit and Tax Return

Registering a marriage doesn't automatically trigger a residence permit, because not everyone who gets married lives together. You need to apply for family reunification. If you get married in Switzerland then I think you can request family reunification as part of the paperwork.

Normally, married people in Switzerland file joint tax returns, as both are resident here. But I think we have some members whose spouses are not Swiss residents and they have different tax situations.

If you want to only register in January then of course you would not be a resident until that time.

Roegner, any help??

Re: After Marriage Permit and Tax Return

For the first two years of marriage, we had separate legal address, but both in the same canton (ZH, but neither of our places was legally large enough for two, so we said "screw it"), HOWEVER we were taxed together!

Tom

P.S. Wife was Canadian/Swiss, I had a B, and we got married in upstate New York after giving a verbal translation of her Swiss divorce decree.

And for six months afterwards, I was married, and she wasn't!

(it all got back-dated in the end, and cost a whopping CHF 35 when all was said and done, a lawyer-friend had the same happen to his sister when she married a German, so knew how to handle it)

I file here and add hubbys income for calculation purposes/tax bracket so Id imagine OPs wife would have to do the same. That income is not taxed! As hubby pays his in his country of residence.

She would have to add OPs income as from the date of marriage Id imagine.
