apartment and residence during C permit VINTA/anticipé application

Hi ladies and gents, your advice would be very helpful: Thanks

I am from non-EU and applied C permit VINTA/anticipé in canton A start-July, now the online follow-up indicates that the authority is examining my request(since end-August).

Now my employer in canton B asks us to be 50% present in the office (we were doing full home-office with COVID). The 2 cantons are too far to commute. I already master canton A's official langauge but don't speak canton B's language.

1. If I take an appartment under my name in canton B, do you know if it will have any impact on my on-going request? If it may complicate my request, I'd rather book Airbnb each time for 2 weeks when I need to go to office and travel back to canton A for another 2 week home-office.

2. If it is NOT a problem to take the apartment under my name in canton B, do you think I have to keep my apartment in canton A before getting the C permit? I thought about quitting my current apartment and asking a neighbor to put my name on his mailbox or asking the same to a friend who lives at a different address. but I don't know if it may cause a problem for the C permit application.

How were you managing to go to the office before the virus situation started?

Re: apartment and residence during C permit VINTA/anticipé application

You need to be officially registered as a resident in Geneva until your C permit application is complete. Just putting your name on a friend's mailbox won't work, it needs to be officially registered with the commune. Which may work if your friend and their landlord don't mind and their apartment is large enough.

You taking an apartment in your name in canton B won't affect your application at all and the authorities in Geneva don't need to know about it. It just cannot be your official primary residence (you wouldn't be able to register it as such anyway because a non-EU permit is only valid for the issuing canton and that's Geneva, not canton B )

Do it correct. Find a small apartment at place B and register as Wochenaufenthalter/séjournant à la semaine at place B. Considering the long travel time this can also give you some tax advantages at place A.

Thanks, just for info, my current B permit issued by "canton A" gives me right to work for another canton or employer, maybe I need to have the green light from "canton B" if I move there from "canton A" .

1. Do you mean that I can take an apartment in canton B without informing either canton?
2. I thought about asking for a neighbor because I was already officially registered with my current address since years and if the neighbor agrees the address will stay the same so I don't need to inform the authority. If he agrees, is it risky to quit my current apartment before getting C permit?

Thanks for the info. Do you think I can do it online or via Email? The fact that I don't speak German makes me hesitant to initiate a conversation with German-speaking authority . By writing I can use Google Translate but if it is in person or phone, I feel uneasy..

if I register as Wochenaufenthalter, does it mean that I can't stay in canton B during weekend and have to go to canton A each weekend?

You forget something: Each apartment has an unique identifier (also used for Serafe). You are not simply registered at an address but at an apartment at that address.

You should not be at place B during weekends and place A should be your center of life.

Re: apartment and residence during C permit VINTA/anticipé application

OP is in Geneva, where there exists an online status check for permits.

As the application of the federal law on foreign aliens is of cantonal competence, each canton is free to shape their processes as they deem fit
