I need to apply for B-permit extension in Zurich. Can somebody help me with the process and mainly with the documents required.

You should receive an invitation from the Kreisburo to renew your B-Permit within a month before your current permit expires. This will include the Verfallsanzeigen that your company HR needs to accomplish/sign to confirm that you are still employed with them.

Once this is completed, you go to the Kreisburo along with your current employment contract, existing B-permit, and passport to submit the application. If everything is in order, you should get the new permit in the mail within 2 - 3 weeks.

As per my understanding that is only for Family reunification. Please correct me if I am wrong.

As far as I know, this is only for the family re-unification unless your employment requires specific German language skills.

Old permit, valid passport, letter that your residence permit is about to expire.
If other documents are needed they should be listed on the letter.

Even if language certificate is not explicitly needed it might be wise to at least think about acquiring basic skills in the local language.
