Permit/Unemployment benefit

Hello all,

I need some advice on how to handle my current situation.

I am non-EU citizen and got a 6months-L (job seeking)permit after my studies. This permit expires next month. I am currently registered with the unemployment insurance and my benefit is still running. I would like to know if anyone can give a suggestion on what I can do with respect to this.

Secondly, I have a funding for a program outside Switzerland but I cannot start now till Next year because of the covid situation. I would also like to use this the basis to ask for a short stay of 3months. What do you think is feasible? Can I request for a tourist status while here?

You posted your question in the middle of the night/wee hours of the morning. No one replied, probably because few saw it. A "bump" in internet forum language is when a thread is brought back to the top by a new post being added.

This reply to you is another "bump" that will again bring your thread to the top of most recent posts. Hopefully someone will be along with advice for you shortly.

I suspect whether or not you can easily stay as a tourist largely depends on which non-EU country you're from.

I think you need to talk to RAV since you're already registered with them. It'll be up to them to decide whether to grant you any extension of your permit.

I'm not sure what you mean by funding outside of Switzerland. Is this a job outside the country or what?

RAV doesn't grant permits, cantonal & federal migration authorities do. I agree though that user "help" is going to have to talk to RAV.

A friend of mine in a similar situation wound up with a dilemma. RAV agreed to continue paying as long as the person had a valid permit and days remaining in the unemployment insurance timeframe (Rahmenfrist?). Cantonal migration authorities said they would grant a permit if RAV would certify in writing that they would continue to pay X amount for Y months. In the end neither side would budge and "promise" to the other. The person had to leave.
