I am purchasing a new home in a different Canton - My wife is Swiss

I am an Italian with a B Permit. I am purchasing a new home in a different Canton. My wife is Swiss. Do I go to the immigration office to register in the new location? We are still keeping our old home.

Thanks for the help

Yes, if you intend to live there.

Which one is going to be your main, principal, residence?
And what are you going to do with the other one, rent or holiday?

We are not going to rent. We are going to split our time between our homes. Most likely spend more time in the new home.

Then you would register in that commune as prime residence and in the other commune as Wochenaufenthalter/Soggiornanti/séjourner.

Because it has a tax impact the involved communes/cantons might challenge that.

You will have to decide which one is going to be your main home- and the Gemeinde/Communes involved will have to agree. Because this is where your taxes will be paid. You can't just flit between the two as you please, administratively.

If one home has 1 bedroom, say in the Zug area which is very low tax, and the other home has 8 rooms, 5 bedroom and 2 or 3 bathrooms, in a higher tax area- the higher tax area would probably argue that the larger home should be considered as your main residence. They are even entitled to check your utilities consumption.
