Unemployment benefit for L permit holders

I am wondering if L permit holders are allowed to obtain unemployment benefit after working for 2 years. I guess the L permit is tied to the employment is it expires once someone loses a job.

Read this thread https://www.englishforum.ch/employme...enefits-2.html
Seems like you have to register with the RAV before your contract has expired.

Re: Unemployment benefit for L permit holders

I am wondering what kind of permit one can apply if someone gets unemployment benefit. Will it be L Aufenthalt zur Stellensuche ?

is your permit EU or non-EU? Your answer is useless.

Without EU passport, the permit should be non EU.

You say family is EU, does this mean your spouse has an EU passport, and are they with you? I think this makes things easier.

I doubt that. Spouse and kid with EU passport - still got 1 year L permit for past 2 years for everyone.

Unemployment benefit for a mom with child

Here is a situation of a mother from EU with a child living with husband for last years but only worked 9 months (80%) during that time in order to take care of the child.

https://info-rav-zh.ch/de/#/id/5c989e1e3322e9010b51c85b

"Ausnahmen, wenn Sie nicht genug Beiträge an die Arbeitslosenversicherung gezahlt haben
Sie können Arbeitslosenentschädigung bekommen, wenn Sie innert den letzten 2 Jahren während mindestens 12 Monaten wegen einer der folgenden Situationen nicht arbeiten konnten:

Sie haben sich um die Erziehung Ihres Kindes gekümmert. "

Can someone explain this a bit and refer it to the paragraph number of the unemployment law? As such is the mother eligible to receive unemployment benefit?

Re: Unemployment benefit for L permit holders

If you could clarify what permit you have, you might get some answers.

Reunification permit? Non EU? Sole earner?

Re: Unemployment benefit for L permit holders

Your permit could be EU or Non EU L - the L does not tell us which sort it is.

In this case, based on experience from two other cases, easiest pathway is for EU spouse to find a job that earns enough to support the family, then get an EU work permit and you will get a 'Dependent' spouse permit and then then seek work. However, then your employment is tied to hers... and she needs to be gainfully employed to keep your family in Switzerland.

For you, if you came in from non-EU, and your L is two years, and your employer has ended your contract before the full 2 years... then you are theoretically entitled to unemployment benefits, but you will need the support of RAV to renew your permit. Talk to RAV immediately if you know your contract is ending. You will be relying on them to support your case.

The OP might wish to review the RAV FAQs regarding eligibility for unemployment compensation, in particular, FAQ 1 and 2 (English):

I understand. I worked for 26 months on L permit to be precise. I already registered at RAV and going to apply for unemployment benefit at UNIA. Now I have a Schengen visa to stay here for 3 months. I guess I need to get some kind job seeker permit here in order to receive unemployment benefit and apply for jobs.

Re: Unemployment benefit for L permit holders

Your permit should have been renewed before it expired.

Your Schengen visa is not a work permission.

What did RAV say ? Non-EU can't get a 'job seeker permit' so you really need to talk to RAV about how to renew your permit...

When does your current permit actually expire ? normally Non-EU L permits are one year, and you need to apply to renew it about 3 months before the current permit is due to expire.

Or is it really an EU permit and we're missing something here ? What is your spouse's status - do they have a 5 year work/study permit or is hers tied to yours, with the same dates ?

Did the Gemeinde send you the forms to renew your permit ?

My permit does not mention if it's an EU L permit. But my spouse and kid's L permit, it is written EU. However, when I registered at RAV, they wrote my permit is EU L. So I am confused a bit. In theory, since I am not an EU citizen, I can't have EU L permit, right? RAV said they have no influence on permit application if I will get any UB.

All permits are expiring this year. I had L permit for past 2 years. Then I got 2 months extension and we got another L permit for 2 months! Last time Gemeinde told me they did not ask me to renew the permit as they thought I would leave.
