Family regroupment when both are working in Switzerland

Hi y'all,

I had a good trawl around ch.ch and also here but wasn't really able to find an answer.

Scenario: EU person working in Switzerland (say, B permit) and non-EU person working in Switzerland (say, L permit), want to get married in Switzerland (or elsewhere). They get married and would like to apply for family reunification for the non-EU person as it is easy in life/work with a B compared to an L (think credit cards, phone plans / non-EU work permit application craziness )

What is the actual procedure in this case? All the sources seem to mention the need for a D Visa which is applicable if they are not already in Switzerland. Does the non-EU person need to leave Switzerland and apply for a D visa from their home country? Is there a 'facilitated' route to 'swap permits' to the EU spouse's permit?

Thanks in advance!

It's quite simple, get married here in Switzerland and apply for family reunification at your local commune/gemeinde providing the documents needed.

No need for visas since both are already in the country.

Alright we just submitted the paperwork at the Gemeinde on Monday - should this actually take long? I think it is a formality at this point...

Re: Family regroupment when both are working in Switzerland

Depends on many factors: which canton, which Gemeinde, how many other applications they're processing at the moment, how many of their staff are away on summer holidays... There's really no way of knowing. Could be 2-3 weeks, could be 2-3 months.

I did a similar process a year ago, went from student B permit to Regroupement familial tied to my spouse's working permit (both non-EU), took about a month or so. This year for renewal, we've been waiting for over two months already.

Cool, good to know - thanks. Hopefully it's quicker since the spouse is EU
